What is developmental editing?

Together we can explore types of narrative structure that will impact your reader and keep you engaged with the work. 

Draft Creation
As a team we can set goals with word count requirements and mutually chosen deadlines to keep you on track. Frequent check-ins mean that you won't get lost in the fog. Writer's block can be put behind you. With space for new innovations as you move forward, a draft can take shape.

Revision and Review
This includes all aspects of draft development, brainstorming, and writing exercises. All manuscripts go through many revisions. Sometimes you have to make big changes. Together, we'll work through each step of the process.

Get your text ready for a publisher's eyes with structural and line editing.

How much does it cost?

Developmental editing is fluid in nature. It involves time reading your manuscript and providing feedback, but also a lot of back and forth communication, brainstorming sessions, coaching, and encouragement. Got writer's block? There are ways to overcome it. Stuck on a plot line? Perhaps a chat with your editor will help you sort it out. 

Many authors commit to a flat fee per publication, but due to the collaborative nature of the work, developmental editing can also be billed in stages based on progress. You're welcome to give it a try, and see how it works for you without committing to a flat fee. 

You can expect to pay $50/hour. A manuscript of 100K words at this rate would cost approximately $1400 for reading and feedback, plus consultation time. To take your book all the way from conception to completion, you should budget $1500-$3000 depending on the level of assistance you will need.
