Vanessa Brown is co-owner of Brown & Dickson Bookstore, and the author of The Forest City Killer (2019) among other titles. She is a graduate of Brescia University College with a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature, and is a professor at Fanshawe College, teaching courses in writing, communications, and English literature. Her professional career has revolved around her love of books and literature.
As an editor, Vanessa believes that the structures of story craft can be applied to non-fiction as much as they can be used in traditional narrative fiction. It’s all about giving the reader a reason to turn the page. She loves to work with writers on finding new ways to see the stories they tell. Creativity can be joyfully free-wheeling; it can also become an overwhelming mess. Vanessa believes that tangible goals can help structure a project. She’s excited to wrestle with huge, research-based manuscripts, character-driven fiction, mysteries and thrillers, but is also down for anything that’s compelling, regardless of genre.
